Decorating for the Holidays
Should I decorate my home for the Holidays when it is on the market?
When you are selling your home over the winter months, decorating for Christmas is something to consider. The question is to “Deck the Halls” or to not “Deck the Halls”.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year and many families enjoy decorating their homes, making them festive for the holiday season. You may be hesitant to bring out your Holiday decorations if your home is listed for sale as you want to reduce clutter.
With the Holidays just around the corner, we often get these questions from our sellers:
- Can I decorate for Christmas?
- Should I “tone it down” this year?
- How early can I decorate?
It is important to continue family traditions and especially during the holidays. Your life should not but put on hold when you are selling your home. A buyer coming through the home may enjoy the festive feel and it could help them picture their family celebrating Christmas in the home in the years to come. Buyers are also aware that the sellers are still living in the home and would expect some seasonal decorations.
Here are some tips for decoration this holiday season while your home is up for sale:
- Keep it simple, this will make it easier to pack up when you home sells
- Don’t cover up any key features in the home with decorations
- Keep exterior decorations to a minimum, this would include inflatables
William Morris said “All rooms ought to look as if they were lived in, and to have so to say, a friendly welcome ready for the incomer.” In the end, it’s the holidays and if you like to get festive then go for it. Enjoy your last Christmas in your home before it sells and look forward to decorating for the Holidays in your new home next year.
